Zimbabwe Safari

Explore more of Zimbabwe

The majestic Zambezi river flows 500 miles along Zimbabwe’s northern border. It’s one of the world’s great rivers, cascading over Victoria Falls before running into Lake Kariba. Passing through the Kariba dam the Zambezi becomes a big lazy curving river surrounded by elephant herds, buffalo and antelope.

On your Zimbabwe safari you can explore the Zambezi. Stay at the colonial style Victoria Falls hotel – the “Grand Old Lady” and sip tea on the terrace as you watch the spray cloud from the waterfall . Fly over the mile wide falls by helicopter or even microlight. Take a lazy sundowner boat ride watching the hippos yawning and fish eagles swooping. Ride an elephant or go white water rafting down the narrow gorge below the Falls.

400 miles away the Zambezi flows beside the World Heritage site of Mana Pools a fertile floodplain with forests and savannah. From upscale Ruckomechi Camp you can explore Mana by open vehicle safari and on foot, seeing zebra, buffalo, lion and kudu. Take a boat ride or canoe and watch hundreds of elephant come to the river’s edge to drink and play as the sun sets on another magical day.

90 minutes in a small plane takes you to a grass strip in Hwange, a vast savannah plain where tens of thousands of elephant roam free. Giraffe mingle with antelope and jackal on the golden grasslands. Ever watchful cats stalk the herds. Prides of lion compete with stealthy solitary leopard. When they have finished, scavenging hyena and ungainly vultures take their turn. Makololo Camp is 25 years old, deep in the heart of Hwange – almost part of the scenery.
